Day Seven: Time to face the music (aka The Tape Measure)

A short update tonight on my week one weigh-in.

Since I've gone on no-carb or low carb restriction before, I expected some weight loss after one week and I did see some here. Typically this might be four or five pounds in the first week but I know now that this is mostly water being released by the body for various reasons we can talk about in another post. However, this week I only lost two pounds and, since I know I was fairly good (I did go into ketosis this morning), I wonder if this is due to the large amount of protein I ate prohibiting any lean mass lost.

We can check this using the formulas and charts provided by Protein Power (see the reading list in the side bar). I'm down to 229 pounds and given my waist, wrist and hips measurements, I can see that of the two pounds lost this week only 0.4 came from lean mass. So the larger portion of the drop in pounds came from fat. A nice showing but we've got a long way to go. Maybe tomorrow I'll ponder: why have I not wanted to run yet? Hmmm.
